Earthquake
GLEN ELLEN – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay area Wednesday night, but no serious injuries or damage were immediately reported.

“This report of my death was an exaggeration.” Mark Twain

For those of you hoping that the liberal heathens of Santa Rosa, CA are dead and gone from a terrible act of God, my apologies. We are still here, breathing, ranting left-wing rhetoric and slowing the line at Starbucks with our orders for Café-Mocha, non-fat, decaf espresso, with extra chocolate sprinkles.

The earthquake was entertaining. I was sitting in room full of people studying Talmud (Jewish Law). As the walls began to rattle, we looked at each other, wondering, “Should we move?” It was a long lasting quake, beginning with a bit of rattling, then a few moments of true shaking, a few more moments of rolling, subsiding to a half hearted shaking, to the rattling and then silence. We discussed the fact that, despite sitting next to a large wall of glass, no one raced to stand in an interior doorway. The consensus reached was that we are probably all dumb as dirt to have just sat there.

As we were leaving however, the Rabbi suggested that we put a better “spin” on our stationary response to the quake. “The Rabbis of the Talmud believed that if you were reciting Torah, nothing bad could happen to you. Therefore, clearly our faith has saved us from harm.”

Truth is that earthquakes, even 4.3 magnitude ones, happen frequently here. We sit on a fault line and there are many local geothermal areas. As DC would say, "It’s no big tuna."
